This past Wednesday night, fans at Jannus Live felt the summer heat rolling into Tampa Bay as they waited in line for gates to open at Madison Beer’s sold-out show. Before the headliner even took the stage, fans saw electrifying performances from openers Destiny Rogers and UPSAHL.
The night’s lineup showcased the transformative power of social media in the music industry, highlighting how platforms like TikTok have catapulted these artists to fame. Over 65 thousand videos have been uploaded to TikTok using Destiny Rogers’ song “Tomboy.” UPSAHL, known for her edgy, direct lyrics, has garnered nearly 24 million likes on TikTok and built a massive following of a million fans on the platform. Her ability to engage listeners with her raw and authentic sound was evident in her dynamic performance, leaving the audience buzzing with excitement.
Yet, few musicians have harnessed the internet’s potential quite like Madison Beer. Discovered by Justin Bieber due to her YouTube cover videos, Beer’s journey from an aspiring young singer to a pop sensation is nothing short of remarkable. Signed to Island Records at just 14, Beer has spent the last decade cultivating her craft and building a devoted fanbase. Now, at 24, she stands poised to become the next big pop star, with approximately 65 million followers across social media and 17 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
Madison Beer’s performance at Jannus Live was a testament to her genuine talent and star power. Rather than relying on an elaborate stage show full of choreography, Beer’s focus remained on delivering an exceptional vocal performance. Her understated approach allowed her silky voice to shine through, captivating the audience with clarity and emotion. Nevertheless, the visual elements of the show, including a large screen and illuminated stairs, provided an engaging and immersive experience.
Beer’s setlist was a thoughtful blend of old and new, ensuring that long-time fans and new listeners alike found something to enjoy. She performed songs from her debut EP, as well as her early single “Dear Society.” Her latest release, “Make You Mine,” a viral hit inspired by EDM and club sounds, got fans moving. This track, one of the most popular sounds on TikTok as of late, demonstrates Beer’s ability to stay relevant and innovative in a fast-evolving music landscape.
Madison Beer is not a new arrival into the music industry and will be no sooner forgotten. She is a unique talent who has taken viral moments and built a lasting career out of them. Each release shows progress and increasing maturity. Fans should be excited for what is to come next with this young, but experienced musician’s work.
