The Mahaffey Theater was transformed into a Sonic Temple providing everyone a Sanctuary to Rock. Ian Astbury’s vocals were stellar and Billy Duffy, well he was, Billy Duffy. Do I need to say more? John Tempesta on drums and Grant Fitzpatrick on bass were powerful and drove the band, while Damon Fox filled in that classic Cult organ sound.
From the first song of the night to the last, it was a perfect sermon. A mammoth wall of sound shook the Temple walls while everyone danced and sang along. Among those participating in the night’s homily, were some of the Bay Area’s musicians, Todd La Torre of Queensryche, Greg ‘Zink’ Ciznke of The Hazies/The Black Honkeys, Dave Walker of The Hazies, guitarist Dave Arazmo and I believe there was a sighting of Chris Jericho of Fozzy.
I am a big fan of The Cult and I’m so glad I got the see them this time around. If you didn’t go you really missed an excellent show. Hopefully they will be back again soon
