Rod Stewart and Cheap Trick performed Saturday night 9/3/2022 at Amalie Arena. The last time I had the chance to see Cheap Trick was on Sept 20, 1985 at The Scope, in Norfolk, Virginia. Cheap Trick walked onto the stage to flashing blue and red lights and sirens and started the night with “The Dream Police.” Robin Zander and the boys were joined on the tour with Robin’s son, Robin Taylor Zander on guitar. Other songs included, “If You Want My Love,” “The Flame” and of course “I Want You to Want Me” and “Surrender.” They put on an arresting performance that captivated the crowd. Looking around the crowd, so many were wearing checkerboard patterns and they all were having a good time.
Intermission was over and the curtain that had a giant likeness of Rod Stewart’s face started to rise, while the band played “Addicted to Love,” by Robert Palmer. This revealed the women members of the band mimicking the famous video. Rod Stewart walked out and started singing. During his two-hour performance Rod sang so many of his most notable songs. Including, “You Wear it Well,” “Forever Young,” “Maggie May” and “Do You Think I’m Sexy?” This was the last night of the tour, but you would have never known. Rod sounded amazing and the band was spot on.
I’ve never seen Rod Stewart live before and I am so glad I got to see this amazing show. Both acts complimented each other and gave spectacular performances. It was truly one the best shows of the year to come to the Tampa Bay area. Thanks to Rod Stewart and Cheap Trick for an incredible night of music.
