This was my 4th time seeing Troy Andrews, otherwise known as Trombone Shorty, in concert, and each show is an adventure, not only musically but in absolute joy! Tuesday night was a “Shorty Gras” that brought the soul of New Orleans to Tampa. Always the ultimate hype man, Troy is constantly in motion-strutting, dancing and orchestrating the crowd!

Backed by the incredibly tight Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue the energy never dipped for a second. The brass was bold, the rhythm section locked in deep, and the seamless blend of funk, jazz, rock, and classic New Orleans grooves created a sound that’s impossible to sit still for. Every solo felt spontaneous and electric, yet the band played with the precision of musicians who know each other inside and out.

What sets Shorty apart isn’t just his virtuosity on the trombone (and trumpet! ), but his genuine connection with the audience. He doesn’t just perform for the crowd, he performs with us. Call-and-response moments, surprise jam sections, and his infectious smile turned the venue into one big, dancing celebration.

“Shorty Gras” wasn’t just a concert; it was a full-on party infused with culture, heart, and pure musicianship. Even after four shows, he continues to surprise me, proving that no two nights are ever the same. If you ever have the chance to see him live, take it — you’ll leave smiling, sweaty, and already planning the next show. The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa Event Center is a great place to do so as it is an intimate venue that seats 1,500.
